Nigerian actor Tobi Bakre has been chosen as one of the 202 participants for the upcoming Berlinale Talents. The event, scheduled to take place from February 17–22, 2024, in Berlin, aims to connect these talents with the film industry and the Berlinale audience through various talks, workshops, and public discussions centered around the theme: Common Tongues: Speaking Out in the Language of Cinema.
Joining Tobi Bakre is Nigerian film critic and journalist Ini-Abasi Jeffrey, along with 10 other talented individuals from Africa. The list includes Slim Baccar from Tunisia, Niza Jay from South Africa, Wangechi Ngugi from Kenya, Maisha Maene from DR Congo, Linda Leila Diatta from Nigeria, Aline Amike (a Rwandan-born talent selected for Germany), Chloé Ortolé from Senegal, Advik Beni from South Africa, Morad Mostafa from Egypt, and Fatima Wardy (a Sudanese-born talent selected from the US).
According to the press release, the 202 Talents consist of 116 females, 76 males, and 10 individuals from diverse backgrounds. They work across various disciplines such as acting, cinematography, directing, film distribution, film journalism, production, set and digital set design, screenwriting, sound design, score composition, film editing, world sales, and audience design (including curators and cinema owners).
