The music industry witnessed the continued rise of Nigerian artists and Afrobeats on a global scale as the Grammy Awards nominations list was recently unveiled.
A total of eight Nigerian artists secured nominations in various categories of this prestigious award.
Burna Boy, a prominent figure in the Nigerian music scene, received nominations for his outstanding work. His song “Sittin’ On Top Of The World” was nominated for Best Melodic Rap Performance, while his album “I Told Them…” earned a nomination for Best Global Music Album. Additionally, his songs “Alone” and “City Boys” were recognized in the categories of Best Global Music Performance and Best African Music Performance respectively.
Davido, another Nigerian artist, also made his mark with nominations for his comeback album “Timeless” in the Best Global Album category. His global hit song “Unavailable” received a nomination for Best African Performance, and his song “Feel” was acknowledged in the Best Global Music Performance category.
Olamide and Asake, both newcomers to the Grammy scene, were thrilled to receive their first-ever nominations for their collaboration “Amapiano” in the category of Best African Music Performance.
Ayra Starr, a rising star, was recognized for her exceptional talent with a nomination in the Best African Music Performance category for her worldwide hit “Rush.” Fireboy DML, known for his remarkable contributions, earned a nomination in the Album of the Year category for his work on Jon Batiste’s “World Music Radio.”
CKay, a talented artist, secured a Grammy nomination for his work on Janelle Monáe’s album “The Age of Pleasure,” which itself was nominated for Album of the Year. Tems, another Nigerian artist, received a nomination for her contribution to Rihanna’s “Lift Me Up.”
In addition to these incredible Nigerian artists, other African acts such as Trevor Noah, Musa Keys, and Tyla were also recognized with Grammy nominations. This showcases the immense talent and impact of African artists on the global music stage.
